It’s summer time, which means it’s festival time, which means it’s the best time of the year (sorry Christmas). While Download Festival’s official start is on Friday, the Chaoszine team took the opportunity of exploring better the District X that is opened on Wednesday and Thursday, with lots of interesting acts. Live report by Benedetta Baldin, photos by Niko Sihvonen.
The first band that we have seen on the Doghouse stage was Black Water County, and it’s been one of my favorite discoveries of the festival. They were absolutely bringing it all, and the audience was clearly there for them because they were cheered on louder and louder. After enjoying their set for a little bit, we moved to the Den to enjoy Jordan Gray’s Comedy Club. To state that I absolutely adored this is not enough! What a great bunch of people (Jordan included) that graced that stage with funny puns, clever wits and just incredible time.
We returned to the Doghouse for Andrew O’Neill: A History Of Punk, and if you know anything about me is that I grew up with this kind of music, so I wasn’t going to miss this for anything in the world. And the selection of tracks performed was absolutely spot on, I’m very glad we caught him! Later, we returned to the Den for two sets: She They Press Play Showcase and Token Grass. Both very enjoyable, even though I’m not that accustomed with Sleep Token‘s music.
The last two acts were both on the Doghouse: Nic-Cage Against The Machine and Tasmin Taylor. That’s exactly how you end a night at the festival: both acts completely blew me away in such a positive manner, I sincerely hope to catch them again in the future. And stick to read the following reports, because this wasn’t the only time we heard “Killing In The Name” performed….
Thursday is a new day and we still return to District X before the grand opening of the arena on Friday. The first band we see is Bat Sabbath in the Doghouse, which is an amazing way to being our time there. We move then to the Ace of Spades stage to enjoy Ace of Slays which was funny, enjoyable and very entertaining too. I hope they’ll be here next year too!
Kyden Fire‘s DJ sets between acts were also very lovely, and we top off our day there with the band Five. I have to admit, I was pleasantly surprised, the crowd was so engaging during their set and they really seemed like they were enjoying every second of it. Another great day in Donington Park!
