Billy Corgan of The Smashing Pumpkins has disclosed that the group has gotten back together in the studio with producer/musician Butch Vig (Garbage), as per theprp. Vig co-produced The Smashing Pumpkins‘ platinum-selling 1991 debut album “Gish” and their 4x platinum 1993 sophomore album “Siamese Dream” with Corgan, in addition to overseeing seminal records from Nirvana, Helmet, and other artists. Corgan claims that he recently recorded a new tune with Vig alongside James Iha and Jimmy Chamberlain from The Smashing Pumpkins. For now, though, Corgan is encouraging fans to join up for his Substack if they would like to learn more about it.

Corgan shared more information on Substack, saying that one song was recorded with Vig for a “specific purpose” that he hasn’t yet disclosed. He did, however, mention that the song is about “98% done” and will be released this year. With the announcement this past weekend of plans for a 30th anniversary tour of “Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness,” The Smashing Pumpkins have a huge year ahead of them.
