Alternative rock icons The Smashing Pumpkins are marking the 30th anniversary of their platinum-certified 1996 box set, “The Aeroplane Flies High”, with a new vinyl reissue, as per theprp. Originally released as a companion piece to their landmark double album “Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness”, the expanded collection is scheduled to arrive on December 18, with pre-orders currently open.
The reissue announcement coincides with major commercial milestones for the band’s back catalog in the United States, as the RIAA officially updated several of their seminal records on October 2. The diamond-certified “Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness” has elevated to 11x platinum status—its first certification update since achieving diamond status in August 2012. Concurrently, the group’s 1993 classic “Siamese Dream” has climbed to 7x platinum, marking its first formal re-certification since hitting 4x platinum in January 1996.
