The legendary, Grammy Award-winning rock group The Smashing Pumpkins will be the main act at their hometown’s renowned Lollapalooza this Friday, July 31, as per Blabbermouth. The historic occasion signifies the band’s eagerly anticipated return to the festival for the first time since their 1994 tour debut. The band has announced a number of special activities throughout the week to commemorate the occasion. The celebration, dubbed “Pumpkinpalooza,” is scheduled to take over Chicago with a pop-up store selling exclusive items, an intimate underplay performance showcasing their Lollapalooza set, and more.
It all starts on July 29 when the Pumpkins play a sold-out show at the storied Riviera Theatre in Uptown Chicago. Fans will have a unique chance to hear the band’s extensive catalogue in a small theatre setting at the 2,500-seat venue. The Pumpkins will also hold a merchandise pop-up at 900 S from the 29th to the 31st. Wabash Avenue. The pop-up will be available every day starting at 10 a.m., just a few blocks from Lollapalooza’s residence in Grant Park. until 6 p.m. Fans can visit Madame Zuzu’s Celestial Lounge, an extension of Billy and Chloé Mendel Corgan’s cherished Highland Park teahouse, throughout the festival.
Matcha, records, unique items, and more will be available at the location. The renowned Chicago cocktail lounge is located outside the event grounds. The limited-edition speciality cocktail Infinite Mellons, designed in honour of the Pumpkins’ Lollapalooza homecoming, will make its debut at The Aviary. Following a number of significant events, such as the 30th anniversary celebration of the diamond-certified “Mellon Collie And The Infinite Sadness” last year, “Pumpkinpalooza” and the band’s next tour continue a historic moment for The Smashing Pumpkins. A deluxe vinyl reissue with never-before-seen live recordings from the album’s supporting world tour, an onstage rendition of “Mellon Collie”‘s classic hits and cherished fan favourites with the Lyric Opera of Chicago, and culinary partnerships with Vosges Haut-Chocolat and Erewhon were all part of the anniversary celebration.
