The annual “Lollaplaooza” festival in Chicago, Illinois, will be shown live on Disney+ and Hulu this coming weekend, as per theprp. Turnstile, a melodic hardcore band, and The Smashing Pumpkins, a diamond-certified Chicago local, will perform for fans of heavier genres who intend to watch from home. The finalised schedule for the festival’s July 30–August 2 run at Grant Park includes more performances by Charli XCX, Tate McRae, Clipse, and others.
Every year, Chicago’s Grant Park hosts the four-day Lollapalooza music event. In 1991, it began as a touring event, but in 2005, it made its permanent home in Chicago. Alternative rock, punk rock, heavy metal, hip hop, and electronic dance music are examples of musical genres. Additionally, political, charity, and visual arts organisations have participated in Lollapalooza. Every year, the festival sells out and draws an estimated 400,000 attendees in July. One of the biggest music festivals in the world and one of the oldest in the US is Lollapalooza.
Perry Farrell, the frontman of Jane’s Addiction, came up with the idea for Lollapalooza in 1991 as a farewell tour. The initial Lollapalooza tour was a commercial success with a wide range of bands. It made stops in almost twenty North American cities. The original Lollapalooza was named the greatest concert of the last 35 years by Spin in 2020. After then, Lollapalooza continued yearly until 1997 before being resurrected in 2003. The festival travelled throughout North America from its start until 1997 and then again in 2003. The tour was cancelled in 2004 due to low ticket sales, despite the organisers expanding the dates to two days per city.
The event was redesigned into its current structure as an annual festival in Chicago in 2005 by Farrell and the William Morris Agency in collaboration with Capital Sports Entertainment (now C3 Presents), a firm based in Austin, Texas. Live Nation Entertainment acquired a majority stake in C3 Presents in 2014.
