At a special concert on June 6, 2026 at Wooly’s in Des Moines, Iowa, original Slipknot singer Anders Colsefni honoured “Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat,” the album that launched the band from Iowa’s underground clubs to the world’s largest stages, as per Blabbermouth. “A new group of old-school Midwest musicians” that he refers to as The Crowz supported him at the performance; a fan-filmed video of the event is available below.

Colsefni played drums and occasionally sung in several local bands before joining Slipknot with Shawn Crahan and Paul Grey in 1995. He frequently ran into other future members of Slipknot. Colsefni’s first band was the death metal group Vexx, which he started in 1988 with Josh Brainard on guitar and vocals and Grey on bass. Vexx changed their name to Inveigh Catharsis in 1992, and they occasionally performed with drummer Joey Jordison. They split up in 1993 after Brainard joined another local metal band called Modifidious with guitarist Craig Jones and Jordison. Colsefni and Grey were performing with guitarist Patrick Neuwirth and percussionist Crahan by March 1993.

He also sang in Body Pit, one of Gray’s bands at the time that included future Slipknot guitarists Donnie Steele and Mick Thomson. Colsefni, Crahan, and Grey created what would become Slipknot in September 1995. Steele and Brainard, two guitarists, and Jordison, a drummer, joined what was initially known as The Pale Ones. Grey played bass, and Colsefni split percussion responsibilities with Crahan in addition to providing lead vocals. For their debut performance, the band adopted the name Meld, which was inspired by a song by Body Pit.
