An all-star cover of “War Pigs” by Black Sabbath is now available for streaming

Recently, professionally recorded video of an all-star rendition of Black Sabbath‘s anti-war anthem “War Pigs” has surfaced online, as per theprp. The group who played this version included former Guns N’ Roses/Velvet Revolver drummer Matt Sorum, Billy Idol guitarist Steve Stevens, Black Sabbath bassist Geezer Butler, Extreme guitarist Nuno Bettencourt, and Slipknot frontman Corey Taylor. That performance was a part of this past March’s “The Sound And Vision Awards,” as was the recently released pro-shot clip of members of Halestorm, Stone Temple Pilots, Bon Jovi, and others covering Bad Company‘s “Shooting Star.” Black Sabbath bassist Geezer Butler and former Bad Company, Free, and Queen singer Paul Rodgers were honoured at that all-star charity event. On September 13th, that set will be made available under the name “Sound & Vision Live.”

Most people agree that “War Pigs” is one of Black Sabbath’s best tracks. The song is noteworthy since it was published in Broadside, an American folk music journal that typically didn’t include rock tunes. The guitar riff of the song is so similar to that of Arctic Monkeys‘ 2014 single “Arabella” that the band frequently performs an intermission of the song so that frontman Alex Turner can pick up his guitar in time for his solo. The Arctic Monkeys frequently tease the song’s riff at the conclusion of their live performance of “Arabella” these days. The 2014 movie “300: Rise of an Empire”, a follow-up to the 2007 movie “300”, has “War Pigs” in the credits.

One of the forty songs in the Newseum’s Music Monday series, “War Pigs” was included in the Reporting Vietnam exhibit as a significant musical representation of the era. Since the 2022 edition, WWE has utilised the song for both its Survivor Series WarGames event and their NXT TakeOver: WarGames events. “War Pigs” is used as run-out/tunnel walk music by a number of the University of Arkansas’ sports teams, referred to as the Razorbacks (a word for feral pigs, which are famed for their ferocity). Additionally, the Razorback Marching Band regularly performs the song.
