There’s no love lost between John Lydon and the other members of Sex Pistols…

Author Benedetta Baldin - 17.10.2026

During an appearance on the October 15 episode of Good Morning Britain, a British breakfast television program broadcast on ITV, former Sex Pistols frontman John Lydon was questioned about his prior criticism of his bandmates’ decision to reform with Frank Carter as the vocalist. He characterized the reunion effort as akin to “karaoke.”

Cheek of them. Going out without me, singing the songs I wrote, the words I wrote, the presentation I created.

Following a comment from one of the interviewers suggesting that he “should’ve joined them” in the Sex Pistols reunion, Lydon responded with a rebuttal.

Uh, well, no, ma’am. I’ve worked enough with them in the first place. They’re deceitful, lying hyenas, and I never want another thing to do with them. So can we drop the karaoke band? Because that’s what they are to me — they’re imitating me, and that’s really kind of insulting, because there’s great bands out there that imitate us already.

In August 2024, Sex Pistols guitarist Steve Jones, drummer Paul Cook, and bassist Glen Matlock—who was replaced by Sid Vicious in the original lineup—conducted three fundraising performances at London’s Bush Hall. Subsequently, in September 2024, these musicians collaborated with Frank Carter of Gallows and The Rattlesnakes for a United Kingdom tour.
