Frank Carter, the current vocalist of the Sex Pistols and formerly of Gallows, expressed disapproval of a concertgoer’s behavior during the band’s performance at the Ogden Theatre in Denver, Colorado, on October 9th, as per theprp. Carter verbally reprimanded the individual from the stage before security personnel removed him from the venue. According to Carter, the male attendee objected to the band’s decision to designate a women-only mosh pit during the concert. Footage captured by fans illustrates the incident, and Carter’s remarks from the stage are documented below.
Ladies if you’ve ever wanted to mosh or dance in a safe environment without getting an elbow to the f*cking face… What’s the matter? No, listen, shut the f*ck up. Shut up. Shut the f*ck up, Just stop f*cking talking. There’s always f*cking one. Let me get to the end of the f*cking story and then get on the f*cking stage. Just shut the f*ck up. Every f*cking time.
Every time, there’s always a man that tells me, ‘[Women] can do this all the f*cking time.’ Like, they can’t. They f*cking can’t. Do you know why? Because they walk in the mosh pit and they get a f*cking elbow to the head by a f*cking idiot!
You’re shaking your head like you’re a f*cking ‘woman’? Are you f*cking stupid? It’s not your lived experience, so just shut the f*ck up! F*ckin’; Christ. Every f*cking time. You’re still shaking your f*cking head. Do you know what, instead of crouching, just f*cking leave, bro!
There ya go then. How is it so difficult for you to see space made for women at a Sex Pistols gig? How the f*ck did you decide? ‘No! They can f*cking do this whenever.’ Ask any one of them if they feel safe in every mosh pit! Don’t roll your f*cking eyes at me—you f*cking did this. You did this!
Following the concertgoer’s proposal to establish an all-gender restroom at the venue, Carter provided a response.
That’s brilliant. I’m f*cking super grateful that there’s an all-gender bathroom here. I love that. There is no…
Carter then threw the mic on his own head and said:
That’s what it’s like. That’s what it’s like. Banging your fckin’ head off a brick wall. Are you lot fcking ready? Because this is for you, it’s not for him. Now listen gentlemen, gentlemen, you have a responsibility… [Someone interrupts him] Are you fcking seriously doing this? Oi, security, just get this fckin’ lump outta here. And you know what? If you’ve got a f*cking problem with me, you can see me outside after geezer…
Right, as I was f*cking say before I was rudely interrupted by a man that wanted to tell me that, actually, there’s no gender inequality in the world; If you’ve ever wanted to dance in a safe environment, without the risk of getting an elbow to the face by some hardcore ninja, or being groped by some absolute f*cking Neanderthal, or even worse, being mansplained for three f*cking minutes that actually you can dance, this is your chance to do in a safe environment, where not only all the f*cking girls will have your back, but all the other men in the room now, will keep all the other f*cking drunk men out the f*cking way, and they will let you occupy the space, that they have occupied their whole f*cking lives, and they didn’t even f*cking know. And the best part is, you get to do it the best Sex Pistols song ever, and he’s gonna f*cking miss it, this is called ‘No F*ckin’ Feelings’.
Carter then took to his instagram stories to continue and explain the situation better. A relative of the person that was thrown out also provided some context.
If you are a man who gets offended by a band making room for a female only moshpit then you are PART OF THE PROBLEM. Stay home, read a book by Bell Hooks, come back when kindness, compassion and empathy have landed with you. Incels, homophobes, misogynists, racists, fascists not welcome
Also this isn’t up for debate. I don’t care for your pedantry, If it isn’t your lived experience, don’t fucking speak on it. If you are offended by being told something isn’t for you then imagine how it feels to be a woman in the current climate.
And finally… When I say a Ladies only moshpit I of course mean a trans inclusionary space. The space is for people who don’t usually feel safe… To dance and have fun without the worry of physical, sexual or psychological welcome being used against them while they are vulnerable.
DO NOT LET THEM DIVIDE US
And lastly….
Frank-let me apologize that was my idiotic son who decided to make a stand last night in Denver about the womens mosh pit. Wasnt how he was raised, wasnt what he was taught. His sisters learning of his stand are very upset w him as am I. Unfortunately this is what has happened in our country and the misinformation and poison that has been spewed into young and old people has infected and affected our country. Ty for doing that- keep it up and ty for a great show. I was watching from the balcony and didn’t even know it was him until after the show. Keep rocking and making moments like that. I watched the women during their time and saw all of them having so much fun and i wonder years from now what they will do from your encouragement to try something they may have always wanted to but didnt feel safe trying to do. All small acts are important! Keep it up and best to ya n the band. Cheers!
