Marcus King’s new single “Red Door” features a guitar solo by the late Brent Hinds

Marcus King, a Southern rocker, recently published a new song featuring the late Mastodon guitarist Brent Hinds, as per theprp. Hinds played a guitar solo on the song “Red Door” from King‘s “Darling Blue” companion album “No Room For Blue.” The tunes were launched for the Black Friday Record Store Day event last autumn, and they have lately appeared on digital service providers. Hinds’ contribution has often been disregarded because he isn’t given much credit on the song. That is, until the late former Mastodon guitarist/vocalist’s participation in this song was verified by Banker Handcrafted Guitars’ social media account.

For those who may not know, this song you are listening to has one of the last guitar solos Brent Hinds recorded. He slept on the living room couch for a week (or two, whose counting) with The Marcus King Band at the house they rented down in Macon, Georgia while they were writing and recording their latest record, Darlin’ Blue at the legendary Capricorn Studios.

The final song on the companion release titled “Red Door” was one that Brent collaborated and performed on. Ever the stubborn perfectionist, he managed to do 278 takes before landing on the one he liked best. These are some photos I took while hanging out and watching it all unfold for a couple of days.

King revealed his first solo album, “El Dorado”, in 2019. It was produced at Nashville’s Easy Eye Studio by Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys. Fantasy Records published the genre-bending album on January 17, 2020. “El Dorado already stands out as a definite high point of 2020,” the Associated Press said upon its publication. Dan Auerbach produced King‘s second album, “Young Blood”, which was released on August 26, 2022. Billboard’s Melinda Newman described it as “a staggeringly confident work.” Guitar World readers selected it as the 12th best guitar album of 2022, and it debuted at the top of the Billboard Top Blues Albums Chart.
