Mastodon release a new documentary “The Mastodon in the room”

Mastodon has released a new 30-minute mini-documentary that tackles the proverbial elephant in the room, as per theprp. In it, the band deals with the death of its guitarist/vocalist Brent Hinds, who died on 20 August 2025, at the age of 51, in a motorbike accident. Hinds’s death took place amid a time of extreme instability between him and the band since, months before his death, he had suddenly broken up with his former bandmates in the progressive sludge metal outfit, and he had often expressed his dissatisfaction with them.
Since then, Mastodon has addressed that breakup and paid honour to Hinds, whether in the media or in their most recent single, “Your Ghost Again,” which was released without him. The group’s members, guitarist/vocalist Troy Sanders, drummer/vocalist Brann Dailor, and guitarist Bill Kelliher, have talked extensively about their connection with Hinds and how the loss has affected them in this new film, “The Mastodon In The Room.” The aforementioned trio is holed up in a theatre to view a compilation of historical material of their work together, including a tonne of behind-the-scenes film and some of their favourite moments with Hinds, as that documentary explores their past together. They also share their opinions and memories of those significant moments and scenes.
