Daron Malakian of System Of A Down breaks silence on political polarization

Author Benedetta Baldin - 27.4.2026

In a brief but heartfelt video that he uploaded to Instagram, Daron Malakian of System Of A Down criticises the government and the media, as per MetalInjection. System Af A Down‘s sharply divergent political views have garnered media attention. John Dolmayan, a drummer, is well-known for applauding President Donald Trump for “bringing a little sanity back,” while Malakian is not hesitant to criticise leaders who initiate needless conflicts while being open to dialogue. Vocalist Serj Tankian has been particularly active about environmental and humanitarian problems and has consistently criticised dangerous right-wing extremism, while bassist Shavo Odadijan keeps his political views to himself.

Therefore, Daron Malakian made care to emphasise how unique each member of System Of A Down is while yet being able to work together when he shared the aforementioned video.

Let me tell you something, System Of A Down is not a cult. System Of A Down is a band with four members – four members who are good people, who have different beliefs about different things, different solutions about complex problems. Stop letting the media divide you, stop letting the government divide you. If we can be on stage together and have different thoughts and different beliefs, you can be together too.  And for those of you who disagree with me, pull the tapeworm out of your ass!
