Since the arena debuted in 2023, many fans of progressive alternative metal band Tool have been hoping to see them perform in the Sphere in Las Vegas, Nevada, as per theprp. As you may have seen, the band is also considering doing a residency at that location; they have previously speculated that it might happen in 2027. Guitarist Adam Jones claims that it appears that Tool was one of the first acts asked to open that distinctively immersive venue. Jones mentioned the lost chance and the conversations that have taken place regarding a possible residency at the venue in a recent interview with 99.7 The Blitz. Regarding that, he said:
We were supposed to open that place. We were asked, and because of ‘Game Of Thrones‘ band politics, we just couldn’t make it work. And then they ended up using U2, which I think we probably would’ve gotten bumped anyway. But they have been really enthusiastic about us playing there, so we’ve been talking to them since it opened about doing some kind of residency there. And there’s just a lot of production details and budgeting and money and timing. So it’s complicated. But I think we will do it at some point.
Tool is a clear choice to perform in the aforementioned arena because of their reputation for putting their striking visuals ahead of their own stage presence. However, in order to fully utilise the enormous, all-encompassing LED screens and 4D physical effects, one must essentially completely revamp their stage presentation, which comes with substantial production expenditures. The huge response to Metallica’s planned Sphere residency has demonstrated that there is a big demand for heavier genres at the venue, despite the fact that metal and hard rock had mostly gone untested there.
