Danny Carey’s upcoming schedule fuels speculation around new Tool album

It seems like Tool might actually start working in the studio this autumn, as per theprp. This month marks the seventh anniversary of the renowned progressive alternative metal band’s 2019 return album “Fear Inoculum,” despite years of promises of new music to come. Danny Carey, the band’s renowned drummer, stated earlier this year that he hopes to release a new album in 2027. Now it seems that he might have truly given his all to make that a reality. Although the band has not released an official statement, Tool’s hand may have been tipped by a recent casual remark made by Carey’s musical partner.

With BEAT, an all-star King Crimson tribute, Carey has now performed on multiple tours. Terry Bozzio will replace Carey on that collective’s upcoming autumn tour. BEAT bassist/vocalist Tony Levin provided the following explanation for Carey’s absence from that tour in a statement released on August 4.

As Adrian Belew, Steve Vai and Tony Levin approach the band’s upcoming activity, Terry Bozzio enters the fold behind the kit. Danny Carey remains an important part of the BEAT family, and simply his Tool commitments prevent him from being available for this upcoming run in the Fall.

Tool currently has three festival shows scheduled: “Riot Fest” on September 19, “Louder Than Life” on September 20, and “Aftershock” on October 4. Therefore, unless there is an upcoming tour announcement, Levin’s remarks seem to suggest that Carey’s Tool obligations, which prevented him from participating in the BEAT tour, may also have been tied to the studio, given that the tour will take place from October 9 to December 3.

The renowned bassist Justin Chancellor of Tool acknowledged last summer that new music was in the works, but he cautioned that “art doesn’t really have a schedule” when it comes to the band’s notoriously arduous creative process. Given that there had been discussions regarding a Sphere residence for the following year, 2027 was already expected to be a significant year for Tool. Fans of the band will undoubtedly have a lot to celebrate if a new album is released.
