The bills for the next “Welcome To Rockville” festival in Daytona Beach, Florida, and the “Sonic Temple” festival in Columbus, Ohio, have included death metal band 200 Stab Wounds as a last-minute addition, as per theprp. The Australian deathcore group Thy Art Is Murder just left the slots, which the band will be filling. Unfortunately, due to a medical situation involving their drummer, Jesse Beahler, the latter group was forced to postpone their spring North American touring plans.
Vocalist Brendan van Ryn, guitarists Gary Markowski and Sean Delander, bassist Josh King, and drummer Lee Stanton made comprised the group Thy Art Is Murder when it was first formed in 2006 in the Blacktown neighbourhood of Western Sydney. At the time, the majority of members were about 15 years old. They started performing at local events after releasing their first demo, the three-track “This Hole Isn’t Deep Enough for the Twelve of You”, in 2007. Due to their extremely passionate performances, they soon developed a devoted following among Western Sydney’s local deathcore fans and went on to independently tour Australia’s east coast.
Following their tour, they went back to the studio to produce their debut EP, “Infinite Death”, for which Brendan van Ryn wrote all of the lyrics after the instrumentals were finished. In 2008, Shock and then Skull & Bones Records released I”nfinite Death”. The band’s official Myspace page also released the “Infinite Death” EP, which caused its popularity to soar globally. The record became well-known for both its sacrilegious and sexist lyrics and its technical deathcore sound. On the AIR Charts, the EP peaked at number ten.
Van Ryn’s departure from the group was revealed in 2008 after the breakthrough release of “Infinite Death” and two years of nonstop national touring. At first, it was said that he departed the band because of artistic disagreements, with guitarist Gary Markowski claiming that his voice didn’t fit the band’s later, more death metal-inspired sound. But in 2013, McMahon, the group’s now-ex-vocalist, clarified that van Ryn was kicked out because “he couldn’t sing [anymore] and he had a massive attitude problem.” Before locating Chris “CJ” McMahon from Vegas in Ruins, Thy Art Is Murder spent a year looking for a new vocalist. His death growl vocals were so impressive that he was added to the band in 2009.
