Prog metal band The Gathering have just revealed a temporary change in their lineup for the upcoming shows celebrating “Mandylion”. The band has released a statement via their social media channels.
Due to personal circumstances, our keyboard player Frank will be taking a temporary break from touring with us, beginning with our show in Istanbul this Thursday.
We fully support him and hope that this period will be a short one. We look forward to having him back with us as soon as the time is right.
Fortunately, we have found a very good replacement for these shows in Remco van Zandvoort, who previously filled in for Frank in 2022 and played with us already. Thanks and welcome again Remco!

A Dutch band called The Gathering was founded in 1989 in Oss, North Brabant. Founding brothers René Rutten (guitars) and Hans Rutten (drums), Hugo Prinsen Geerligs (bass), and Frank Boeijen (keyboards) make up the band’s current lineup. Former lead vocalist Anneke van Giersbergen is presently on tour. Before making their breakthrough in 1995 with “Mandylion”, the band underwent multiple vocalist changes. Their early releases were classified as atmospheric doom with influences from extreme metal artists like Celtic Frost and Hellhammer. It was the first album by The Gathering to chart in the Netherlands and the first to have lead singer Anneke van Giersbergen. Beginning with their fifth album “How to Measure a Planet?” in 1998, the band’s music was influenced by shoegaze, post-rock, and trip hop.
