Soulfly release official music video for “Favela/Dystopia”

Author Benedetta Baldin - 14.4.2026

The animated music video for Soulfly‘s song “Favela/Dystopia” was released online this morning, April 14, as per theprp. This clip from the groove metal group led by Max Cavalera was directed and animated by Creeptoons. The band compared this new product to a combination of the atmosphere of “City of God,” a gritty 2002 Brazilian gangster film about the lives of young people in Rio de Janeiro’s slums, and the visuals of Tim Burton’s beloved 1993 animated fantasy film “The Nightmare Before Christmas.” This video is released during Soulfly‘s current tour in direct support of shock metal legends GWAR. King Parrot, an Australian grinder, is starting that run.

In 1997, the Brazilian-American heavy metal group Soulfly was founded in Phoenix, Arizona. Max Cavalera, the former leader of Sepultura, founded Soulfly following his departure from the Brazilian group in 1996. Thirteen studio albums, a tour EP, twenty-three singles, a video album, and twelve music videos have all been released by the band thus far. Their most recent album, “Chama”, was released in October 2025. Their first album, “Soulfly”, was published on April 21, 1998. Similar to Cavalera’s former band SepulturaSoulfly blends several metal genres with Brazilian tribal and world music. Later albums included topics such as war, brutality, aggressiveness, enslavement, hatred, and wrath, while the original lyrics focused on spirituality, politics, and religion.
