(hed)p.e. vocalist Jared Gomes set for knee replacement after stage injury

(hed)p.e. frontman Jared Gomes has revealed that he is scheduled to undergo total knee replacement surgery on December 9, 2026. The vocalist shared the news with fans on November 4, explaining that the procedure follows a serious injury he sustained more than two decades ago while on tour.

Gomes said he will receive a robotic-arm-assisted total knee replacement on his left knee. His announcement suggests that (hed)p.e. could face some downtime while he recovers, although the band has not announced any specific concert cancellations or a timetable for returning to the stage.

Jared Gomes recalls stage-dive injury

Here is an X-ray of my left knee. I had ACL surgery over 20 years ago.

I tore it on tour with SNOT and SOULFLY.

I was onstage with Max Cavalera, doing Benji’s part on “Prejudice.” I stage dove, got thrown back over the barrier, and landed on one leg in a puddle of beer.

My knee snapped. ACL torn.

I always said I’d do this until the wheels fell off.

Well… the wheels have all but fallen off!

Thanks to y’all, I have health insurance, and on December 9th, I’m getting a new knee.

Thank you for your continued support.

I’m nothing without you guys.

Nothing.

Vocalist thanks fans for their support

Gomes also shared an X-ray of his left knee and expressed gratitude to fans, explaining that their continued support had helped him obtain health insurance ahead of the December procedure.

The singer’s announcement was personal rather than a formal statement about (hed)p.e.’s touring plans. Total knee replacement can involve a recovery period lasting several months, but Gomes has not provided an individual rehabilitation timeline.

The vocalist has fronted (hed)p.e. since the band’s formation, helping establish its blend of heavy metal, punk, hip-hop and alternative music. The group has remained active through multiple lineup changes and a long-running recording and touring career.

For now, Gomes is preparing for the December 9 operation. Further updates on his recovery and any effect on the band’s schedule are expected to come from the singer or (hed)p.e. directly.
