(Hed)p.e. release official music video for “Violent Girl”

The music video for (hed)p.e.‘s recently released single, “Violent Girl,” which was directed by Alex Zarek, went up online today, August 7, as per theprp. The group released this new song in conjunction with the opening of pre-orders for their upcoming album, “Relapse,” which is supposedly scheduled to be released on October 2. That performance will be the band’s first since they started their own label, Creator One, and went independent. The record is now available for pre-order online at officialhedpe.com.

‘Violent Girl’ is not a song about a girl! It’s an analogy, a metaphor. I’d rather the listener figure it out than just give away the secrets. – Jared Gomes

Vocalist Jared Gomes, also known as “M.C.U.D.” (MC Underdog), and guitarist Wes Geer formed the band after becoming acquaintances in the Orange County hardcore punk scene. In 1969, Gomes and Geer hired DJ Product, drummer B.C. Vaught, bassist Mawk, and guitarist Chizad. The group’s name, Hed, was inspired by Gomes’ song “Heavy Head.” The band published the self-financed extended EP “Church of Realities” after gaining popularity through their upbeat performances in neighbourhood clubs. Hed had to add PE, which stood for “Planetary Evolution (later changed to planet earth),” to their moniker due to legal concerns.

In 1997, Hed PE released their self-titled debut album after signing with Jive Records. The band was unable to pay back Jive’s cash advances because of the label’s contractual requirements and the album’s poor sales. Hed PE covered Black Sabbath‘s “Sabbra Cadabra” on the tribute album “Nativity in Black II” on June 6, 2000. On August 22, 2000, Hed PE released “Broke”, their second studio album. While its debut song, “Bartender,” peaked at No. 23 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock Tracks list and No. 27 on the Modern Rock Tracks chart, it peaked at No. 63 on the Billboard 200.
