Soulfly wrapped up their performance at the closing day of Sacramento’s Aftershock festival on October 4 with a meaningful guest appearance, as per theprp. Jakobe Moreno, son of Deftones frontman Chino Moreno, stepped onstage to deliver guest vocals on “Pain,” filling in for his father on the track originally featured on Soulfly’s 2000 album “Primitive”. The song is one of two studio collaborations between Chino and Soulfly‘s Max Cavalera stemming from the late ’90s and early 2000s, both written in memory of Cavalera’s late stepson, Dana Wells, who tragically died in a 1996 car accident. Jakobe, an established musician who has previously performed at Aftershock with his outfit Death Rogen, earned praise from Max’s wife, Gloria Cavalera, who commented on the significance of the generational onstage moment.
Today at the ‘Aftershock Festival‘ Soulfly invited Jakobe Moreno, Chino Moreno from the Deftones’ son. He filled in on his dad‘s part on the track Pain. Hot damn! What a voice! He rolled that track up perfectly. It was an epic moment! When Chino’s son was born, Danatold me someday he’s going to play with Zyon. And Dana was right because there was Zyon right behind Kobe on the drums. Legendary moment.
