The upcoming Scorpions biopic “Wind of Change” has secured a North American theatrical release for March 2027. Roadside Attractions will distribute the film in the region, following its previously announced German cinema debut on January 28, 2027, through Warner Bros. Germany.
The release deal brings the long-developed film another step closer to audiences. An exact opening day for North America has not yet been announced.
Directed by Alex Ranarivelo from a screenplay by Mark Andrews, “Wind of Change” traces Scorpions from their beginnings in 1965 through their rise to international success. The story focuses on the band’s efforts to reach audiences beyond the Iron Curtain and the cultural impact of their music during the final years of the Cold War.
The film takes its name from the group’s signature song “Wind of Change”, which became closely associated with political change and the fall of the Berlin Wall. Other well-known tracks, including “Rock You Like a Hurricane” and “Still Loving You”, are also part of the story.
Alexander Dreymon portrays guitarist Rudolf Schenker, while Ludwig Trepte plays vocalist Klaus Meine. Ed Speleers appears as guitarist Matthias Jabs and Luke Brandon Field as drummer Herman Rarebell.
Dominic West takes on the role of longtime band manager Doc McGhee. David Kross also appears as Andrej, a friend of the musicians who is imprisoned on the other side of the Berlin Wall.
The project was filmed beginning in early 2025 at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in the United Kingdom. It was produced by ESX Entertainment for Fox Entertainment Studios in association with Warner Bros. Home Entertainment, with Ali Afshar, Christina Moore and Daniel Aspromonte serving as producers.
The filmmakers have emphasized that “Wind of Change” is intended to explore more than the commercial achievements of Scorpions. Its central theme is the role music can play in connecting people across political and cultural divisions.
Roadside Attractions’ co-presidents Howard Cohen and Eric d’Arbeloff highlighted the group’s determination to bring rock music beyond the Iron Curtain when announcing the North American distribution agreement.
The real-life Scorpions remain active decades after their formation, with Schenker, Meine and Jabs continuing as central figures in the group.
With the German opening now scheduled for January and the North American release following in March, further information about screening dates and territories is expected closer to the film’s arrival.
