Metal legend Ozzy Osbourne recently shared details about his preparation for what could be his final live performance. During an episode of SiriusXM’s “Ozzy Speaks” on the Ozzy’s Boneyard channel, the iconic vocalist discussed his training regimen for the upcoming Back to the Beginning festival in Aston Villa.
In his conversation with host Billy Morrison, Osbourne revealed: “I’m in heavy training for this Aston Villa thing that’s coming up.“
This performance will mark a significant comeback for the 75-year-old rock star, who has been sidelined from touring for several years due to health complications and multiple surgeries.
“I haven’t done anything for, jeez, it’s gonna be seven years,” Osbourne explained. “I’ve been through all these surgeries. It really is like starting from scratch.“
The Back to the Beginning all-day concert event will take place in Osbourne’s hometown of Birmingham, England. The show will feature a historic reunion of the original Black Sabbath lineup as headliners, along with tributes to Ozzy’s solo career. Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morello is serving as musical director for the event.
The impressive supporting lineup includes rock and metal heavyweights such as Metallica, Slayer, Pantera, Gojira, Halestorm, Alice in Chains, Lamb of God, Anthrax, and Mastodon.
Despite his enthusiasm, Osbourne acknowledges the physical challenges of returning to the stage after his health struggles. His training program focuses on rebuilding his endurance gradually.
“It’s endurance training. The first thing to go when you’re laid up is stamina,” Osbourne shared. “So believe it or not, I’m doing two sets of three minute walks a day and weight training. I’ve gotta get going, you know.“
“I’m waking up in my body,” he added. “Three minutes to you for instance is nothing, but I’ve been laying on my back recovering from umpteen surgeries.“
