Octoploid featuring Amorphis musicians and Catamenia playing their first show in six years added to Kaaos Festival lineup

Vaasa’s heavy music offerings gain more color this summer as the new metal-focused Kaaos Festival will be held on July 25-26 at the former Wasalandia area in Vaskiluoto.

In addition to the previously announced Raised Fist, The Haunted, Fleshgod Apocalypse, Turmion Kätilöt, Bloodred Hourglass, In Mourning, Graphic Nature, Chaoseum, …And Oceans, Assemble The Chariots, Enemies Everywhere, Eradikated, Where’s My Bible, and Royal Sorrow, Kaaos Festival will also feature progressive death metal act Octoploid starring Amorphis musicians and melodic black/death metal pioneer Catamenia playing their first show in over six years.

Octoploid, a progressive death metal band launched in 2022 by Amorphis bassist Olli-Pekka “Oppu” Laine, released their debut album “Beyond The Aeons” in 2024 through Reigning Phoenix Music. The band is known for their intense sound combining 70s progressive music and death metal elements, drawing comparisons to bands like Opeth. At Kaaos Festival, Oppu’s bandmate Tomi Joutsen will front the group while Amorphis takes a break from performing and prepares for the release of their next album.

Finnish melodic black/death metal pioneer Catamenia is making a return to the stage after a six-year hiatus, playing their only festival show of the summer at Kaaos Festival. At the upcoming performance, the band will be fronted by original vocalist Mika Tönning, who was active with the band between 1995-2004 and sang on their first five albums. The setlist for the upcoming show will focus on the albums from Tönning’s era, guaranteeing a treat for fans of the band’s early material.

Kaaos Festival promoter Arto Mäenpää comments on the lineup announced so far:

“16 out of 18 bands have now been announced, and we still have to wait a bit to announce the last one, which is Saturday’s headliner. With the announcements of Octoploid and Catamenia, I believe the festival’s first-year lineup offers a very diverse cross-section of different shades of metal music, and that’s why I hope that as many of you long-time readers and supporters of the magazine as possible will come to Vaasa in the summer to celebrate the first Kaaos Festival with us.”

Two-day tickets for Kaaos Festival are now on sale at Ticketmaster and NetTicket. Other ticket types will go on sale during April, when the festival’s day-by-day program will also be revealed.
