Kaaos Festival announces new additions – Old Man’s Child and Marko Hietala join the 2027 lineup

Kaaos Festival, taking place in Vaasa, Finland on July 30–31, 2027, has announced four new additions to next summer’s lineup. Marko Hietala, Norwegian symphonic black metal band Old Man’s Child, Lithuanian modern metal outfit Black Spikes, and Finnish heavy rock pioneers Zero Nine have all been confirmed for the festival.

Old Man’s Child will make their only Finnish festival appearance of summer 2027 at Kaaos Festival, while Zero Nine will play their only show in the Ostrobothnia region next summer. With the latest announcement, nine of the festival’s 20 artists have now been revealed.

Marko Hietala joins Kaaos Festival

One of Finland’s best-known metal musicians, Marko Hietala, will perform at Kaaos Festival in summer 2027.

Known as both a vocalist and bassist, Hietala has built an extensive international career spanning several decades, most notably as a member of Nightwish and Tarot. In recent years, he has also been actively pursuing his solo career and performing around the world as a solo artist.

Hietala’s addition also creates an interesting reunion of sorts within the Kaaos Festival lineup, as his former Nightwish bandmate Tarja Turunen has already been confirmed for next summer’s festival.

Old Man’s Child to make their only Finnish festival appearance of summer 2027

Kaaos Festival’s international lineup will be strengthened by Norwegian symphonic black metal band Old Man’s Child, whose appearance in Vaasa will be the band’s only festival performance in Finland during summer 2027.

Led by former Dimmu Borgir guitarist Galder, Old Man’s Child is one of the long-running names of the Norwegian black metal scene. The band’s latest studio album, “Slaves of the World”, was released in 2009, meaning more than 15 years have passed since their previous full-length release. The band is also set to release new music in 2027.

Lithuanian metal outfit Black Spikes returns to Finland

The third new addition is Lithuanian modern metal band Black Spikes.

The band is not entirely unfamiliar to Finnish audiences, having previously performed in Finland once as support for Infected Rain. In summer 2027, Black Spikes will return to Finland to perform at Kaaos Festival.

Zero Nine to play their only Ostrobothnia show of summer 2027 at Kaaos Festival

The fourth new addition is one of the pioneering names of Finnish heavy rock, Zero Nine, who will play their only show in the Ostrobothnia region during summer 2027 at Kaaos Festival.

Formed in Kuusamo in 1978, Zero Nine rose to the forefront of Finnish heavy rock during the 1980s and was among the first Finnish heavy rock bands to seriously pursue an international career.

In 1982, Zero Nine recorded their “Blank Verse” album in England with Deep Purple vocalist Ian Gillan. During their lengthy career, the band has also performed alongside international heavyweights including Ozzy Osbourne, AC/DC, Scorpions and Def Leppard.

The band’s nearly five-decade history has once again been in the spotlight in 2026, with Tero Karjalainen’s “Zero Nine” biography published in September.

Kaaos Festival 2027 – 9 of 20 artists announced

With the four latest additions, nine of the 20 artists set to perform at Kaaos Festival 2027 have now been announced. More lineup announcements will follow at a later date.

Kaaos Festival will take place in Vaskiluoto, Vaasa, Finland on July 30–31, 2027. The 18+ festival will once again be held at the former Wasalandia amusement park grounds, the same location that hosted Kaaos Festival in summer 2026.
