Nightwish and Wintersun drummer Kai Hahto is known as one of the world’s most respected metal drummers, and for good reason. Now fans can watch the master at work from exceptionally close up, as Antti Kangasaho, a videographer specializing in drum videos, has released a new video on his YouTube channel that takes viewers right up to the drum kit.
The video was filmed at Nightwish’s concert in Vaasa on June 17, 2023. It was a historic concert, as it marked the band’s final performance before an indefinite hiatus. The footage shows Hahto powering through Nightwish’s epic song “The Greatest Show on Earth.”
Kangasaho’s footage offers a rare opportunity to witness Hahto’s technical skill, precision, and power up close. The complex fills and the song’s massive dynamic shifts reveal themselves in a whole new way when the focus is solely on the drumming.
“The Greatest Show on Earth” was originally released as part of Nightwish’s 2015 album “Endless Forms Most Beautiful,” and over the years it has become one of the band’s most ambitious and acclaimed live performances.
