Floor Jansen has offered new insight into her departure from Nightwish, explaining that the musicians had reached a point where they could no longer navigate difficult periods together.
Speaking with Dutch news outlet NU.nl, Jansen compared her relationship with the Finnish symphonic metal band to a personal relationship that changes over time. She explained that even after periods of distance, the members needed to reconnect as a united band when performing for their audience. Eventually, she felt that was no longer possible.
I compare it to a relationship. You go through ups and downs together; at times you grow closer, and then there’s more distance again. But sometimes it just doesn’t work anymore. We had to make sure that, as soon as we were on stage together, we were once again the band that everyone came to see. If that’s no longer possible and you can no longer get through the tougher times together, it’s over. That’s not a decision to be taken lightly, and I certainly didn’t rush into it.
Jansen stressed that leaving Nightwish was not an impulsive decision. The two parties announced their separation by mutual agreement on October 15, ending her time as the band’s vocalist after more than a decade.
