My Chemical Romance reveal plans for new album in 2027 and added some rarities in their setlist

My Chemical Romance have revealed plans to work on a new studio album in 2027, while their October 30 concert at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles also featured a long-awaited onstage reunion with The Used frontman Bert McCracken and a surprise live debut.

During Friday night’s performance, vocalist Gerard Way addressed the band’s future and indicated that recording new material will be a priority next year.

Next year, we want to go make a record, so we’re probably not doing any shows and there’s no secret code to that… I mean, maybe if we get really rusty while we’re making something, we’ll be like, ‘alright, let call the band ‘Helena’ or something’, and we’ll show up. But seriously, we want to go do that and then hopefully we’ll see you guys in 2028.

The comments represent the clearest indication yet that the band intend to move forward with their long-awaited fifth studio album. However, no release date, album title or recording schedule has been officially announced.

The prospective record would be My Chemical Romance’s first full-length release since 2010’s “Danger Days: The True Lives Of The Fabulous Killjoys”. The band reunited in 2019 and released the standalone single “The Foundations Of Decay” in 2022.

Way had previously discussed the possibility of new music during a September concert in San Antonio, telling fans that the band had wanted to make another record for some time.

Gerard Way and Bert McCracken reunite onstage

The Hollywood Bowl show also brought an emotional moment for longtime fans when Gerard Way and The Used vocalist Bert McCracken performed together for the first time in more than two decades.

The Used opened the evening, with Way joining the band for a rendition of “Buried Myself Alive”. McCracken later returned during My Chemical Romance’s headline performance to sing “You Know What They Do To Guys Like Us In Prison”, from the band’s 2004 album “Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge”.

The two singers were closely associated during the early years of their bands’ careers, but their friendship became strained in the mid-2000s. Their reunion at the Hollywood Bowl marked a significant moment for fans who had followed both groups since that era.

Rare Danger Days track makes its live debut

My Chemical Romance had another surprise in store, performing “We Don’t Need Another Song About California” live for the first time.

The song originally appeared as an iTunes-exclusive bonus track on “Danger Days” in 2010 and was later included in the album’s expanded anniversary edition.

The October 30 concert was part of My Chemical Romance’s five-night Hollywood Bowl residency, which concludes on Halloween, October 31.

The band also reached a new chart milestone this week when their 2006 album “The Black Parade” topped the UK Albums Chart for the first time following its 20th-anniversary reissue.

Although fans will have to wait for further details about the proposed new album, the Hollywood Bowl performance offered a glimpse of what could be the band’s next chapter.
