Portuguese gothic metal veterans Moonspell have announced the inaugural edition of Moonfest, a new heavy metal festival celebrating the band’s 35th anniversary. The event will take place on October 30, 2027, at the MEO Arena in Lisbon, Portugal.

The festival’s lineup has been personally selected by Moonspell and features Finnish progressive metal band Amorphis, Swiss avant-garde metal act Zeal & Ardor, British band Towards The Sinister and Portuguese gothic metal group Heavenwood.

Moonspell will headline the event with what they describe as the biggest production of their career, delivering a performance spanning more than three decades of their musical history.

Moonspell celebrate 35 years with their own festival

According to the band’s official announcement, Moonfest has been created to celebrate not only Moonspell’s anniversary but also the diversity and longevity of heavy metal.

The organizers aim to bring together established names and newer musical perspectives, with the lineup representing different styles and generations of the genre.

Heavenwood will open the festival, followed by performances from the remaining guest artists before Moonspell take the stage for the evening’s finale.

The headlining show promises a journey through the band’s extensive gothic metal catalogue, accompanied by an ambitious production designed specifically for the occasion.

Formed in 1992, Moonspell have become one of Portugal’s most internationally recognized metal bands. Their discography includes influential releases such as “Wolfheart”, “Irreligious”, “Night Eternal” and “1755”.

With Moonfest, the group are marking their anniversary on a particularly large scale while bringing international metal acts together in their home country.
