John Dolmayan, the drummer for System of A Down, has once again sparked controversy due to his contentious views, as per theprp. According to a post he published on social media back in 2023, Dolmayan’s right-wing political views have been widely reported over the years, causing conflict between him and his bandmate Serj Tankian as well as “hundreds of thousands of fans” to unfollow him. Dolmayan has been loyal to himself in spite of the fallout from voicing his controversial views; last year, he even went so far as to declare his support for Donald J. Trump, despite the criticism he received for it. Charlize Theron, the Academy Award-winning actress from “Monster” and “Mad Max: Fury Road,” and her children’s gender identities are the subject of his most recent debate.
Dolmayan reposted an Instagram post this past weekend that purportedly cited Theron stating this.
What drives me is this: my children are all queer. My Eldest child is non-binary. My son is gay. My youngest child is fluid.
This is what Dolmayan said in a comment on a screen grab of that Instagram story post.
This woman should be in an asylum or jail. These children are being mentally abused, statistically impossible!
Dolmayan’s controversial opinion has, predictably, sparked debate on the band’s subreddit. But in the future, Dolmayan might have to apologise to Theron for his condemnation. The aforementioned comment was not made by Theron, despite the fact that she has two adopted children, one of whom identifies as transgender, and she has supported transgender rights. Rather, in 2023, fellow Academy Award-winning actress Marcia Gay Harden made it.
What drives me is — my children are all queer. My eldest child is non-binary. My son is gay. My youngest is fluid. And you know, they are my kids and they teach me every day.
On April 17, David Harris Jr., host of “The Pulse” on the far-right news station Newsmax2, published the initial article with the quotation incorrectly ascribed to Theron, which Dolmayan later commented on and shared.
