The Canadian deathcore group Despised Icon is based in Montreal, Quebec. The band was founded in 2002 and is well-known for both its two lead vocalists, Alex Erian and Steve Marois, as well as the skill of its drummer, Alex Pelletier, who frequently employs the blasting technique. Together with Antagony and The Red Chord, they are recognized as the founders of deathcore. The band broke up in April 2010, but after performing at reunion events in 2014 and 2015, they formally reconvened six years later in April 2016. Over the course of their career, the group has put out seven full-length albums and had very few lineup changes.
