Eric Morotti releases additional statement about him parting ways with Suffocation
Author Benedetta Baldin - 3.5.2026
When drummer Eric Morotti announced his departure from death metal veterans Suffocation in April of last year, he called in a veritable atrillery strike instead of just burning a bridge on his way out, as per theprp. Morotti made crude accusations about his now-former colleagues in that tenured group when he made his declaration public. Later, Suffocation released a statement in which they claimed that Morotti had been sacked and that he had made “false” assertions in his farewell statement. Morotti, who also plays drums with Sanguisugabogg, apologised for how he handled leaving Suffocation nearly a month after making his initial remark.
Now that I’ve returned home from tour, I want to address my post about suffocation, and sincerely apologize for how I handled things. I used language that was hurtful and disrespectful, and I regret that. I should have communicated it without attacking or speaking negatively about others. I take responsibility for my words and understand the impact they can have—not just on the people involved, but on everyone who follows and supports me. That’s not how I want to represent myself. I’m grateful for the experiences I’ve had, and I’m committed to moving forward with more respect, clarity, and professionalism. Thank you to those who continue to support me—I appreciate it more than you know. I wish them nothing but the best and am very grateful for the tours, albums, experience I had with them. I love them all sincerely like brothers
