In a recent interview, former Slipknot percussionist Chris Fehn shared his memories of the legendary “#1” behind the kit, as per Loudwire. Slipknot members frequently discuss the late drummer Joey Jordison with affection. During Fehn’s appearance on the Talkin’ Rock podcast with Meltdown of Detroit’s WRIF, Fehn was questioned about what it was like to work with Joey Jordison in the midst of Slipknot’s massive crew.

It’s intimidating. It’s very intimidating to be a percussionist with Joey Jordison. I’m in the studio watching this guy and like, ‘What am I gonna do?’ This guy can cover everything. He’s just a phenomenon. It was cool because he realizes that percussion is a big part of it also. So he’d work up some parts or somebody would come up with some parts and we used to fit it in there with his madness. It was cool to do. I miss that dude a ton.

[It was] unbelievable how hard he hit and how smooth he can be and technical and at soundcheck he’d just whip out some jazz. Is there anything you can’t do? He was amazing.

Joey Jordison, who joined Slipknot in 1995 and made an appearance on their pre-major label demo album “Mate” in 1996, was one of the band’s key early members. In a 2024 interview, Shawn “Clown” Crahan clarified the “misunderstandings” around Jordison’s claimed co-founder status. In 1998, Fehn became a member of the group, replacing touring member Brandon Darner. Later, in 1999, he was featured on Slipknot‘s self-titled major label debut. After Jordison left the group in 2013, it was discovered in 2016 that the drummer had been suffering from acute transverse myelitis, which had affected his ability to use his legs while performing. Jordison eventually recovered with medical help and physical rehabilitation, but he never returned to Slipknot.
