A look into the crystal ball: Here are the most anticipated rock and metal albums of 2025

Once again, it’s time to look at what albums the beginning year will bring or might bring with it. Surprisingly many artists’ albums planned for 2024 appear to have stretched into 2025, so several interesting records are coming out. Chaoszine listed for its readers international albums that at least the editorial team is eagerly waiting for:

Anthrax

Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian has said in an interview that the band is planning to release the follow-up to their 2016 album “For All Kings” in 2025. The album was expected to be released a couple of years ago. Let’s see how the situation progresses.

Arch Enemy

Arch Enemy will release their fifth studio album “Blood Dynasty” on March 28 through Century Media.

Architects

Album name: “The Sky, The Earth & All Between”
Release: 28.2.2025

British metalcore band Architects will release their album “The Sky, The Earth & All Between” on February 28. The band’s previous album “the classic symptoms of a broken spirit” was released in October 2022.

At The Gates

Swedish At The Gates released their previous album “The Nightmare of Being” in 2021, after which the band has undergone personnel changes. A new album was discussed already in 2022, so 2025 could be favorable for release.

Avantasia

Album name: “Here Be Dragons”

Avantasia, the German band led by Tobias Sammet performing at Helsinki Ice Hall’s Black Box in April, will release their album “Here Be Dragons” on February 28 through Napalm Records.

Swedish metal band Avatar has announced they will begin recording their next album in January, so the album could be expected to be released during 2025.

Metal powerhouse Bleed From Within have announced their new album “Zenith” that’s set to be released on the 4th April via Nuclear Blast Records.

Bury Tomorrow

Album name: Will You Haunt Me With That Same Patience

The album “Will You Haunt Me With That Same Patience” will be released on 16.05.2025 via Sony Music, arguably their most intense work to date.

Cancer Bats

Canadian Cancer Bats has announced they will begin working on their eighth album. The record might be completed during 2025.

Chevelle

Chris Harms, known as the vocalist of Lord Of The Lost, will release his first solo album “1980” on January 31st through Napalm Records.

Cradle of Filth

Release: Spring 2025

Cradle of Filth is releasing their next album in spring, from which the band released the first single on Halloween. The band’s frontman Dani Filth has estimated in interviews that the record will be released around March and mentioned that the band’s collaboration with pop singer Ed Sheeran is affecting the release schedule.

Deftones

American nu metal band Deftones‘ singer Chino Moreno said in spring that he was recording vocals for the upcoming album. From this, one could conclude that the new album would be ready for release in 2025.

Destruction

Thrash metal legend Destruction will release their album “Birth of Malice” on March 7 through Napalm Records.

Dimmu Borgir

Also from Norwegian Dimmu Borgir‘s camp, it has been revealed that the band was in the studio recording at the end of the year. The possible new album’s release could thus happen during 2025.

Down

While we don’t know the name of Down‘s upcoming album, we know for certain that it will be released in 2025, so all we have to do now is wait. Like that’s easy, eh?

Dream Theater

Album name: “Parasomnia”

Dream Theater’s sixteenth full-length “Parasomnia” will be released on February 7th through Inside Out. This is the band’s first album in fifteen years featuring original drummer Mike Portnoy.

Dynazty

Album name: “Game of Faces”

If you don’t have plans for Valentine’s Day yet – worry not, because Dynazty are back with a new album. Don’t tell me that it doesn’t sound like something exciting to do with your partner!

Eluveitie

Following 2022’s singles ‘Aidus’ and ‘Exile of the Gods’, Eluveitie are back with their first new music in 2 years. With ‘Premonition’ Eluveitie release the first song from their upcoming album, which will be out next year.

Exodus guitarist Gary Holt has said the band will head to the studio in February to record their next album. New material is thus coming, but an exact time hasn’t been announced.

Ghost

Ghost, heading on a world tour in spring, is expected to release a new album, which could be assumed to release on the threshold of the tour, as even the tour name hasn’t been revealed yet. With the new album, a new Papa Emeritus is also expected, who based on hints is Papa Emeritus IV’s twin brother.

Gojira

Gojira, who delighted and angered people at the Olympics opening ceremony, is working on new music. Singer Joe Duplantier has revealed that the band is in the middle of the album-making process. The album could thus be ready for release during 2025.

With a post on his social media account, Howard Jones announced to be working on a solo album with Josh Gilbert of Spiritbox. 2025 will be a full year for Killswitch Engage‘s vocalist!

Jinjer

Ukrainian Jinjer is releasing their fifth album “Duél” on February 7 through Napalm Records. The band completed their album recordings in summer.

American metalcore band Killswitch Engage will release their ninth album “This Consequence” on February 21 through Metal Blade Records.

King Diamond

Legendary King Diamond has already performed two new songs from their upcoming album at concerts. The album is planned to be released in summer 2025 through Metal Blade Records. The album’s name is “The Institute”, but it’s an album trilogy, and the first part of the trilogy is named “Saint Lucifer’s Hospital 1920”.

In a recent interview, Trent Reznor stated that the band is read to get back on the driver’s seat and working on new music. So we can be hopeful that 2025 will see the release of their new album!

Old Man’s Child

Galder, who left Dimmu Borgir in August, revived his other band Old Man’s Child after years of silence. Galder has shared snippets of new music on social media, and the band will also return to stages in summer. A new album could be expected to release around the same time.

Papa Roach

It looks like there is at least one single coming on January titled “Even If It Kills Me”, and in a recent interview Jacoby Shaddix stated that there is new music definitely on its way.

Patriarkh

Probably one of the first records to be released next year, it’s Patriarkh‘s one. Formerly known as Batushka, the Polish black metal icon is back on the scene stronger than ever.

Doom metal legend Pentagram will release their next album “Lightning in a Bottle” on January 31 through Heavy Psych Sounds Records. The band, formed in 1971, released their previous album “Curious Volume” in 2015.
