The mystery of Deftones’ new touring bassist appears to have been solved

There’s been much speculation about alternative metal legends the Deftones in recent weeks, in particular as to who will be assuming the bassist role vacated last year by Sergio Vega. Vega went on to officially announce his departure from the band on March 08th of this year, citing a contractual dispute as being the issue that caused the split.

With the kickoff of group’s first tour back since the COVID-19 pandemic imminent, the rumor mill has picked up substantially. Bassist Fred Sablan is reported to have been hired on for their spring touring.

Sablan has been involved in several musical ventures over the years, including Heavens Blade alongside members of Suicide Silence and Youth Code. He gained a profile in the past touring as Marilyn Manson‘s bassist, and also serves as a live bassist for Chelsea Wolfe.

A handful of sites have picked up on Sablan‘s apparent new position earlier this week, with humonegro.com reporting yesterday that Sablan has been spotted rehearsing with the band in recent weeks.

As of press time, Deftones have yet to comment on the matter. The dates for their tour with Gojira and Vowws will run as follows:
