Sleep Theory has addressed the passing of a concert attendee who was injured during the band’s performance on May 16th at this year’s ‘Pointfest’ in St. Louis, MO, as per theprp. An initial GoFundMe campaign indicated that the injury occurred after 28-year-old Danielle Uskiwich received an accidental kick to the head from a crowd surfer while Sleep Theory was playing. The fundraising effort, initiated by a relative, noted that by May 19th, Danielle began suffering from intense headaches, leading doctors to diagnose her with a brain bleed. After being admitted to the hospital, it was reported that she experienced multiple strokes and had to undergo further surgery for a clot in her brain. Unfortunately, she died on May 26th. According to KDSK, Danielle’s cousin mentioned that the injury mentioned earlier did not seem to be the direct reason for her death, but rather it uncovered a pre-existing condition that hadn’t been detected before.
It was just a freak accident that happened, but as a family we’re kind of taking it as a blessing in disguise that if she hadn’t had this injury, she wouldn’t have been at the hospital when she had her stroke. She could have been driving or alone.
Danielle’s mother instead stated this:
I feel that I need to clear up some confusion about the series of events that happened with Danielle. Prior to the concert she was having headaches, the doctors believe the clots started forming at that time. The incident at the concert was actually a blessing in disguise to lead her to the hospital. The strokes were going to happen regardless, the concert gave her a fighting chance. Those strokes would’ve happened at any place at any time. I just don’t want the blame to placed where it don’t belong.
Courtney Neisler, Danielle’s best friend said this:
The family would really like everyone to know that it wasn’t the kick that ultimately killed her. The kick actually was kind of a blessing in disguise in kind of a weird way. The kick is what sent her to the hospital, and that is what showed that she already had an underlying issue, and without that kick, we wouldn’t have gotten to say goodbye to her.
And the band shared:
We are deeply saddened to hear of Danielle Uskiwich’s passing.
Our hearts go out to her friends, family, fiancé, and everyone else who was fortunate enough to know her. What happened is heartbreaking, and we cannot imagine the pain her loved ones are feeling right now.
Over the last few days we have been thinking about Danielle and those closest to her. Please join us in sending them all our love, thoughts, and prayers during this extremely difficult time.
Rest in peace, Danielle.
