Guitarist Fredrik Åkesson of Swedish progressive metal band Opeth has revealed that he is working on his first solo album. In an interview with the British magazine GuitarGuitar, Åkesson said he already has two songs finished and a third is in the works. The first two tracks are instrumental.

Åkesson mentioned that the project is progressing slowly due to Opeth’s busy schedule and other session work. He still needs six more songs for the album, but there are plenty of ideas. One of the tracks on the album will feature a guest appearance by Saxon vocalist Biff Byford, whose solo project Åkesson has also played on.

Åkesson joined Opeth in 2007 and has recorded six albums with the band, including the 2024 release “The Last Will And Testament”. Prior to Opeth, he played in several other bands, including Talisman and briefly Arch Enemy.
