Nighwish release ‘Tribal‘ live at the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam in 2022, from the anniversary release ‘The Greatest 30 Years On Earth’, now available for pre-order and to be released December 11th.
In July 1996, on a tiny island near the Finnish town of Kitee, Tuomas Holopainen and Emppu Vuorinen had an idea that would evolve into the exhilarating story of Nightwish — a tale spanning three decades. They went from creating a humble three-song acoustic demo to having genre-defying ideas and achieving global symphonic metal domination.
To celebrate the group’s 30^(th) anniversary, this text could list the gold and platinum awards, chart triumphs, and the 50+ countries toured, as well as the 9 million records sold. However, it would be more fitting to do something that characterises the group so well. Something creative. Something personal. ‘The Greatest 30 Years On Earth’ aims to do just that. Though not humble in format, this massive 4LP & Blu-ray box set and 3CD & Blu-ray earbook contains a detailed 2026 interview with Emppu and Tuomas. They take you back to the aforementioned night in Kitee and reflect humorously and honestly on the band’s incredible history. They also open a treasure trove of private photos accompanied by rare and unpublished behind-the-scenes images provided by long-term Nightwish friends and collaborators.
The release also documents Nightwish’s latest tour, from 2022 to 2023, with stunning recordings and footage captured at the Ziggo Dome in Amsterdam and Rantakenttä in Kitee. Floor Jansen delivers magical performances at these unforgettable shows, closing the circle at the place where Nightwish’s ascent to fame began over three decades ago.
Additionally, ‘The Greatest 30 Years On Earth’ features a documentary by Ville Lipiäinen, offering fascinating insights into Holopainen’s songwriting process, showcasing his creativity, simplicity, love for music, and self-irony. This release also includes a selection of remixed and remastered songs originally recorded live in the studio during the 2021 virtual live shows from the ‘Islanders Arms’. ‘The Greatest 30 Years on Earth’ is a comprehensive collection documenting Nightwish’s past and present — a vehicle of spirit with countless more stories yet to be told.
