Due to the ongoing public conflict between musician/filmmaker Matt Zane and the Static-X camp, Zane has begun posting the video below on social media, as per theprp. Edsel Dope, the current singer of Static-X and Dope (who manages and leads the band as “Xer0“), appears to be commenting about the late Static-X vocalist/guitarist Wayne Static and his late wife Tera Wray in purportedly leaked film. Edsel can be seen talking about the couple’s addiction problems and how their hardships influenced the song “Z0mbie” from “Project Regeneration Vol. 2.” Zane continues his article by expressing his belief that the animated music video for that particular song, which was directed by Edsel Dope, purposefully made fun of Static & Wray’s hardships.
Additional leaked film showing Edsel allegedly talking about Wayne’s drug problems and speculating about how Edsel would get Wayne’s job is also included in Zane’s post. Even though the films are sporadic and don’t provide a larger context, Zane continues to suggest that they show a less noble motivation for Static-X‘s desire to rejoin with Edsel leading the group. Neither Edsel nor the Static-X camp seem to have addressed this video in public. Zane, who had previously been friends with Wayne and Tera, says he was asked to personally record what inadvertently turned out to be the final seven or so years of their life.
Although Zane was also implicated in the Static-X reunion, he had a public falling out with the band’s camp when the late couple’s and the band’s estates forbade him from producing the documentary on the latter years of Static and Wray’s lives. Zane has promised to carry on with that documentary, releasing what appear to be unapproved renditions of Wayne’s songs that have been hit with copyright strikes, and teasing a variety of video. Years after Wayne Static’s death, bassist/vocalist Tony Campos shared his perspective on the extremely acrimonious breakup with Static-X.
