Today Chaoszine introduces you to Granada, an Argentinean groove metal band formed in 2008, which blends influences from hardcore, thrash metal, death metal, groove and even Norwegian black metal.
Hailing from Buenos Aires, Granada brings a fresh, powerful and aggressive sound and their latest offering “Like War$” (2023) represents the band’s artistic evolution. Watch the official music for “Gamble“, one of the album’s singles, below.
The Argentinean-born outfit’s first material, whose influences range from local bands like A.N.I.M.A.L, Vibrión, Hermética and Nueva Ética, to international groups such as Sepultura, Pantera, Helmet, Biohazard, Madball, Testament and others, was “Tocá Metal, Cagón’” (2010). Then came the LP “Historias” in 2012.
In 2013 they recorded the experimental album “Apocalyptic Metal”. Produced by Alejandro Taranto (A.N.I.M.A.L, Los Fabulosos Cadillacs, Infierno 18, Massacre), the LP took the band on international tours, visiting countries such as Mexico, Colombia, Chile and Uruguay, where they presented “Prisonego” (LP-2016), “Sincronizado” (LP- 2017), “Amarre” (EP-2020) and “Sistema Nervioso” (EP-2021).
“Like War$”, Granada‘s latest opus, features 10 brand new songs mixing English and Spanish and was released in 2023 via Tommy Gun Records and 01Records with production by frontman and guitarist Guillermo “Gurú” Estévez. The material is available in digital release through Tommy Gun Records and Uruguay’s Pentagram.
“This new album deeply explores our musical identity and shows growth as songwriters and performers. We are excited to share our new album ‘LIKE WAR$’ with the world. It is a work of total commitment from all of Granada, and we are motivated to work with Tommy Gun Records and Pentagram on this project. We hope the album spreads its wings and finds us doing what we love best, which is playing“, Estévez comments on the release.
“For the rest of 2024, we plan to continue playing shows and promoting our latest album “Like War$”. We want to keep working, rehearsing, releasing new songs and putting the setlist together. We have many albums out so we try to do different setlists with material from the various albums“, the musician adds.
What message is the band trying to give with their music? The frontman makes it clear: “Introspection, that you can make mistakes and move on, that not everything is a success, and there are many things that are trial and error. There are no formulas: transmutation and transformation are important. That’s why every Granada album is different and there will never be one like the other. To exist you have to learn and to progress you have to make mistakes. It’s okay to make mistakes, the important thing is to get up and move on“.
Granada‘s lyrics speak of the existential, the esoteric, of being alive and allowing yourself to be. “There are no mistakes, they are all situations. No two songs are the same, and the same goes for the albums: each album reflects a different stage. That’s why I don’t mind when there is a change of members because it’s an opportunity to grow. Granada is the search for existence, to exist as a band“, Estévez remarks.
Granada is comprised of Guillermo “Gurú” Estévez (vocals, guitars), Marcos Colombi (bass) and Adrián Espósito (drums). Throughout their career, the band have opened for the likes of The Black Dahlia Murder, O’Connor, Horcas and Lethal. “Our greatest pride is being able to tour internationally. We have met bands like Tras Las Púas (Colombia), Next (Mexico), Raped God (Mexico), El Sagrado (Colombia), Ritual (Chile) and many more. You can go out there!“, concludes the Buenos Aires-based musician.
