Marry Me, Joseph: alternative rock from Estonia

As part of its recommended bands segment, Chaoszine.net today introduces a band from Tallinn, Estonia. Their name is Marry Me, Joseph, and they are an electronic and alternative rock quartet that, after more than a decade of silence, returns with the release of ‘Rift,’ their new six-song EP.

“Rift” is a six-track EP that seamlessly blends dark synth textures with a bold rock edge. The material captures the band’s evolution while staying true to the intensity that first defined their sound.

The album is led by the single “Cry“, paired with the visually arresting music video. “This record is about finding clarity in chaos,” the band shares. “We wanted Rift to feel both intimate and expansive, like a dialogue between the personal and the universal“.

On the plans for 2025, vocalist Aleksandr Pljuw says: “We’ve got a big year ahead! Right now, we’re prepping for our summer shows. We don’t want it to be just another gig – we’re aiming for a full audio-visual experience because that’s what a live show should be. At the same time, we’re working on new music, with some fresh tracks dropping this spring. Shows, tours, new releases – it’s all coming!“.

What influences does the band draw from, and is there any Estonian music present in the sound of Marry Me, Joseph? The vocalist responds: “It’s hard to pick just a few influences because we love music in all its forms. Personally, my taste has gone through different phases over the years. I had my emo/screamo phase as a teenager (we even played proper screamo back in the day), then got into ‘90s and early 2000s pop, and later moved into electronic music, especially IDM (not to be confused with EDM )“.

Pljuw adds: “If you check my playlist now, you’ll find everything – from Britney Spears to niche metal and underground glitchcore.
But if I had to name a few key influences, it would be Linkin Park, Eminem, and the Finnish legends Bomfunk MC’s (I went hard on “Freestyler” as a kid)”
.

The Estonian music scene may be small, but it’s ambitious. We’ve got some big names known worldwide, like Arvo Pärt, Tommy Cash, NOEP, Cartoon, and Ewert and The Two Dragons. And beyond that, the local scene is incredibly diverse, I’m pretty sure you’ll be hearing a lot more Estonia-based artists in the near future“, he enthuses.
