Jorn Lande’s collaboration with Tony Iommi on the guitarist’s new solo album “From The Dark” has a history stretching back more than two decades. In a new interview, the Norwegian vocalist revealed that he worked on demos with the Black Sabbath guitarist in 2004 and 2005, long before they finally completed a full album together.
Speaking to David E. Gehlke for Blabbermouth on October 27, Lande explained that he made several trips to work with Iommi during the early development of what became the 2005 album “Fused”. He contributed ideas and worked on demos, but the project ultimately went forward with Glenn Hughes as its vocalist.
I did several trips there, and we did demos together, but for various reasons, it didn’t happen.
The singer also discussed conversations surrounding Heaven & Hell around the time of Ronnie James Dio‘s illness. According to Lande’s recollection, there had been discussions about him potentially singing part of a live set if Dio was able to perform only some songs. Those plans did not become a regular touring arrangement. Lande subsequently took part in the memorial performance in London in 2010.
For the new album, Lande said he was initially approached to work on “Beyond The Dead” and “Stormwatcher“. The collaboration expanded, with his voice ultimately featured throughout “From The Dark”, released on October 23, 2026.
The vocalist also explained that the initial tracks arrived as instrumental arrangements built around Iommi’s guitars, giving him considerable freedom to shape his melodies and lyrics. He recorded early vocals at Jailhouse Studios in Denmark with engineer Tommy Hansen, whom he knew from earlier solo recordings.
The interview offers a new perspective on a partnership that seemed possible in the mid-2000s but only came together in full in 2026.
