Jari Mäenpää, the mastermind behind Wintersun, has shared an update about the band’s upcoming album in a YouTube video. This is what he stated, as transcribed by us:
The new album has grown again. I’ve added one more song, bringing it over 70 minutes of music.
That means it will take a little longer to finish, but I think you will understand why I couldn’t leave this song out. I had this killer chorus lying around, and it had been haunting me for years. The album was already over 60 minutes long, so I wasn’t sure whether to turn it into another song or save it for later.
Earlier this year, I got sick and had to put the vocal recording on hold. So I used that time to see whether I could build a song around the chorus. And what do you know, the verse and the pre-chorus came together instantly.
The bridge was a little more challenging, and the overall structure of the song took a bit more time. But in about two or three weeks, the song was written. I also recorded one of my craziest guitar solos for it.
The lyrics came together pretty quickly too, and I just finished recording the vocals for this song. The vocals for the rest of the album are about 90% done. I’ve been getting some great vocal tracks, my best peak performances ever.
I have just a couple of difficult parts to nail, and then the vocals are done. Then I will move on to recording the rhythm guitars. If you’ve been following, you’ve probably seen me preparing for this.
Getting all these alien guitars, which are highly specialized for the task. I want to record the tightest low-tuned guitars ever. So we are looking at another massive mega album, and hopefully this time we don’t have to split it in half.
Alongside the album, I’ve also been working on bonus content for the next big package. Which I believe will make many of you very, very happy. It’s gonna be the biggest bonus content yet, so there you go.
Next up is finishing those last vocal parts, and then recording the rhythm guitars.
