Is former HIM drummer Gas Lipstick working on a new band project?

Mika “Kaasu” Karppinen, aka Gas Lipstick (ex-HIM, Solitude, Bendover, Kyyria etc.), shared a photo on social media on July 20th that was taken at Sonic Pump Studios in Helsinki. In addition to Karppinen, the image also features other Finnish musicians and industry professionals: vocalist Mimosa (Circlefest, solo career), guitar virtuoso Keinonen (Ian Voltage, Rockin’ Horse), and recording engineer/studio guru Niklas Piispala, whose résumé includes names like Blind Channel, Disco Ensemble, and Tiisu.

The photo raises several questions, such as whether this marks the beginning of a new Finnish supergroup. And who’s playing bass? Who else is involved in the project? Chaoszine contacted the people in the photo for more details, but the responses were cryptic and brief—very much in the “no comment” style of politicians. The only statement the editorial team managed to get was:

Follow our social media. There will be more information when the time is right. And don’t use that damn ‘supergroup’ term!

When Chaoszine tried to crack the silence with a joke, asking guitarist Keinonen if he might be related to fellow fretboard wizard Speedy Keinonen from the hit Finnish sketch show Kummeli, the reply was short and to the point: “Thanks, bye!”

Karppinen’s post tags a user named Semiosis Of None, which appears to be the name of this new lineup. So far, the band’s own account has only one post, showing the drum maestro tuning up at the renowned Sonic Pump Studios:

Something new and intriguing is clearly in the works, and we’ll likely be hearing more about it soon on Chaoszine. As the band wrote in the caption of their only post so far: “Stay tuned…”
