Insomnium release new single with video “Shadowlife”

Author Benedetta Baldin - 17.6.2026

Shadowlife” is a gripping first taste of the upcoming album by Finnish melodic death metal visionaries Insomnium, due for release in October. Refusing to dwell on familiar territory or rely on well-worn formulas, the band continues to push their sound into new emotional and sonic dimensions, expanding their sonic palette whilst remaining unmistakably true to their essence. In “Shadowlife”, overwhelming power blends with delicate vulnerability, whilst darkness and light intertwine in a harmonious interplay. A concept brought to life through the artistic vision of Travis Smith.

A comment from singer/bassist Niilo Sevänen:
As a story, ‘Shadowlife’ can be seen as a gateway to the entire album: an elegy not only for a lost loved one, but also for the fading belief that anything beautiful can remain intact over time. It is the realisation that love, youth, summer and warmth cannot be preserved forever. Thus, we remain suspended between longing and acceptance, lingering in the liminal spaces of sleep, shadow and night.

Guitarist Markus Vanhala comments:
‘Shadowlife’ opens INSOMNIUM’s next dreamlike chapter with a certain deliberate catchiness. I set out to write a hit to kick things off, but don’t worry: deeper tracks will follow. The tenth album is truly a milestone for us, so we wanted to honour our history whilst introducing some new nuances. Living on the edge.
