Swedish metalcore band Dead By April has finished its successful Scandinavian club tour and are heading next to festivals. In July the band takes stage at Kaaos Festival in Vaasa. Chaoszine interviewed the founding member, guitarist and clean vocal-singer of Pontus Hjelm about the band’s project of re-recording of the debut album, thoughts on doing club shows and secret surprises coming for the 20 year anniversary of the band in 2027.
Dead By April has been dropping freshly re-recorded singles of the eponymous album “Dead By April” throughout the spring and summer. Fans have received the songs with excitement, save for a few confused individuals. Pontus Hjelm explains that the motivation behind re-recording “Dead By April” is in fact not an attempt to replace to original songs but a new interpretation of the classics.
“We hope that re-recording the debut album songs will put them in the spotlight again.”
Hjelm tells Chaoszine that the singing of the songs has given him new challenges. The original vocal versions were recorded by the bands ex-singer Jimmie Strimmel.
“I shouldn’t compare my voice to Jimmie’s.”
