Foo Fighters perform Gerry Rafferty’s “Baker Street” for their appearance on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’

Foo Fighters brought their four-night residency on Jimmy Kimmel Live! to a close with a performance of Gerry Rafferty‘s 1978 classic “Baker Street” on October 29.

The performance marked the conclusion of the band’s week-long takeover of the late-night television show, during which Dave Grohl and company performed a mixture of newer material and songs from their extensive back catalogue.

Foo Fighters originally recorded their version of “Baker Street” during a BBC Radio 1 session at London’s Maida Vale Studios in April 1997. The recording subsequently appeared on certain editions of the band’s “My Hero” single in 1998 and later on their 2011 covers compilation “Medium Rare”.

The song has rarely appeared in the band’s live setlists over the years, although they recently revisited it during a benefit concert at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles earlier this month.

For their Jimmy Kimmel Live! performance, guitarist Chris Shiflett took on the song’s famous saxophone melody on guitar, giving Rafferty’s soft rock hit a distinctly Foo Fighters-inspired treatment.

The band’s television residency began on October 26 with “Window“, taken from their latest album “Your Favorite Toy”. The following evening saw them revisit their early single “This Is A Call“, while Wednesday’s performance featured the title track from their newest record.

Grohl also appeared for an interview with Jimmy Kimmel earlier in the week, discussing his musical history, his relationship with late drummer Taylor Hawkins and the band’s recent activities.

The original studio recording of Foo Fighters‘ “Baker Street” cover has also become available on major streaming services.
