Exodus drummer Tom Hunting has underwent a full gastrectomy (a surgical removal of the stomach) earlier today, July 12th. The procedure was necessitated by a gastric tumor found in his upper stomach this past February. He has been receiving treatment for it since then, managing to half the size of the tumor before now getting it out with the surgery.

Hunting’s band mate Gary Holt has posted the following message to Instagram letting the fans know the surgery went successfully. You can read it below:

“GREAT NEWS!! So Tom came out of surgery about 45 minutes ago, he’s still heavily sedated but everything went according to plan. Gastrectomy complete, heavily sedated but all cancer and mesothelioma nodules removed . He’s a warrior. I’ll give updates later as I get them, been a stress filled day, thank you to everyone for all the positive vibes . Much metal love🤘🏻❤️”
