Devin Townsend has recently announced the long-awaited release of his ambitious latest album, “The Moth”, due out on 29 May 2026 via Inside Out Music.
An album that took over a decade to complete, it had remained in Devin Townsend’s mind as the “masterpiece of his life”. Then, around six years ago, following an acoustic concert in Amsterdam, Townsend was approached by the director of the North Netherlands’ Orchestra and Choir with an offer. At that moment, “The Moth” ceased to be merely an idea and became a reality.
Devin is delighted to release the video for the track “Home At Night”, a song that showcases a more delicate side of “The Moth”. Here is the video, produced by long-time collaborator Mike Zimmer:
Devin’s comment:
“As the second track from ‘The Moth’, I’d like to introduce ‘Home at Night’. It’s one of the first pieces written for the project and was inspired by the difficulty of being away from home with young children and a family.
The video reflects my relationship with the more ‘drama school student’ side of my personality, with a healthy dose of the ‘trolololo guy’ aesthetic :)
Within the context of ‘The Moth’, the song is sung from the perspective of the antagonist about to set off for battle. The wider story will unfold over time (if people are interested), but at its core, ‘The Moth’ is a dystopian reflection on transformation: walking through fire to find ourselves, maintaining balance in difficult times, and not letting our light dim as the old fades and the new takes its place.“
Both the album version and the “The Afterlife” version of “Home At Night” are now available to stream: https://dvn.lnk.to/HomeAtNight
“The Moth” consists of three distinct parts. In addition to the main album, “The Moth – The Afterlife” showcases the grandeur of the orchestra and choir, in what could be considered a purer version of the “The Moth” experience. “The Moth – The War” is a recording of the live musical debut that took place in March 2025 in the Netherlands, capturing the raw emotion of performing The Moth for the very first time.
