Canadian progressive rock maestro Devin Townsend has premiered a live performance video of “Lexin,” captured during a 2025 concert of his long-gestating rock opera, “The Moth”, as per theprp. Following the May release of the sprawling studio album, Townsend is now preparing to give its live counterpart— “The Moth (The War – Live)” —a standalone physical and digital release. Previously available only as an exclusive bonus within the deluxe artbook edition, the 24-track orchestral performance was recorded live at De Oosterpoort in Groningen, Netherlands. The full concert will arrive on CD, Blu-ray, and digital streaming platforms on November 6, with pre-orders officially open via this link.

Born in New Westminster on May 5, 1972, Canadian musician Devin Townsend began his musical journey on the banjo at age five before picking up the guitar at 12. During his teenage years, he formed key creative bonds, including a friendship with future collaborator Brian “Beav” Waddell. By age 19, Townsend founded Grey Skies and joined local act Caustic Thought, taking over guitar duties from Jed Simon alongside bassist Byron Stroud—both of whom would later join him in Strapping Young Lad. In 1993, he launched the aggressive project Noisescapes, capturing the attention of Relativity Records with a demo tape.
While working on material for “Relativity”, the label introduced Townsend to guitar legend Steve Vai. Impressed by his vocal range and intensity, Vai recruited Townsend as the lead vocalist for his 1993 album “Sex & Religion”, followed by a high-profile world tour. During the run, Townsend connected with opening act The Wildhearts, subsequently joining them as a touring musician in Europe throughout mid-1994 and contributing to their single “Urge.” This period sparked a lasting friendship with Wildhearts frontman Ginger, who would later co-write several tracks on Townsend‘s solo releases.
