Australian independent label Civilians is proud to announce a new label services partnership with the Northern Turtle Island/Canadian-based label Ishkōdé Records.

This exciting collaboration underscores both labels’ shared commitment to amplifying Indigenous voices through music. Ishkōdé Records, an Indigenous, women-owned record label, is home to some of Canada’s most exciting and innovative artists. With a focus on showcasing Indigenous talent from a variety of genres, Ishkōdé Records has built a distinguished reputation as a platform for dynamic voices within contemporary music.

We are so proud to be partnering with Ishkōdé Records, a label that has such a strong and influential presence in Indigenous music,” said Civilians Co Managing Director, Leigh Gruppetta. “Ishkōdé’s artists bring a depth of talent and perspective that resonates far beyond their music, contributing to a broader cultural dialogue and inspiring a more inclusive industry. Their work not only honours cultural storytelling but also pushes the boundaries of contemporary music, and we’re proud to help amplify these voices within Australia’s vibrant music ecosystem. This collaboration represents a shared commitment to championing artistry that shapes both hearts and minds.

To kick off this new partnership, Civilians is delighted to highlight three exceptional Ishkōdé Records artists who will be performing at the iconic Woodford Folk Festival (Dec 28 – Jan 1, Queensland, Australia) this year: Aysanabee, Amanda Rheaume and Digging Roots.

Both Civilians and Ishkōdé Records share a deep commitment to cultural authenticity and social impact through music. This partnership is set to further bridge the gap between Indigenous communities in Australia and Canada, highlighting the transformative power of music to foster change, deepen understanding, and celebrate shared cultural pride. It stands as a testament to the strength of collaboration in amplifying voices and connecting cultures across borders.
